How I Work

Introductory Session

I am happy to offer a free 20 minute telephone or Zoom consultation so that we can meet and discuss your needs.  If you are considering counselling or psychotherapy but are unsure if it may be right for you, we can arrange a single session to explore your concerns. This session is charged at £65, and there is no obligation to continue after this meeting.

Duration & ending therapy

Some people find that talking about what is troubling them can help them find resolutions relatively quickly. For others, longer-term work feels more appropriate. In the normal course of events, you will probably know when you are ready to finish counselling, and we will agree together to prepare for this. There may be times when you find counselling difficult and feel the need to end sessions. I would ask you to speak about these difficulties with me rather than suddenly finishing, so we can resolve important issues and end our work therapeutically. I will not suddenly or without warning terminate our contract, except in exceptional circumstances.

Fees

Sessions are charged at £65-75.

Reviews

I believe it is helpful to review the therapy after 5-6 weeks to make sure that it is the right approach for you.

What you can expect from me

You will be provided with a safe and secure environment for counselling. You will be treated with respect, and we will agree on the course of your counselling together. You will be given adequate notice of planned holidays, cancellations or absences wherever possible.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is extremely important in the counselling relationship. Anything you disclose will be held in confidence, but it is important that you are aware that there are some limits to this. It is a requirement by law to disclose certain information. If I believe that you are at risk of harm to yourself or others, this would override my duty of confidentiality, and I would contact a third party. I will hold minimal anonymous notes of the sessions, which are stored securely.​

Cancellations & Holidays

Sessions will be held at a regular time every week and will be reserved for you even if you cannot attend. Please commit to attending all your appointments and give at least 48 hours notice if you wish to cancel. If less than 48 hours notice is given or you do not attend and I am not notified, you will still be charged for the session unless there are exceptional circumstances.

I am an Accredited Member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and work within the ethical framework for good practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
